Recombinant Gonadotropins to Induce Oocyte Development In Vitro and In Vivo in the European Eel Anguilla anguilla

چکیده

Commonly, female European eels are injected weekly with pituitary extract (PE) from carp (CPE) or salmon (SPE) to induce sexual maturation. However, a PE is mixture of gonadotropins and other hormones that not specific for eel rapidly cleared circulation. The aim this study was therefore test the effects highly stable eel-specific recombinant (rGTHs) on oocyte development in vitro vivo eels. For trial, dose–effect responses maturing oocytes CPE luteinizing hormone (rLH) were studied before after 12 18 h incubation. experiment, maturation stimulated by treatment (i) CPE, (ii) follicle-stimulating (rFSH) followed (iii) rFSH rLH. expression nuclear progestin receptor 2 (pgr2) induced rLH, implying rLH preparing ovulation. females treated rGTHs had high gonadosomatic index (GSI) values (rFSH-CPE: 75, 77; rFSH-rLH: 80) comparison (50–60), suggesting strongly vitellogenic growth. Larvae produced all groups first time rGTH alone but dose timing still need optimization.

Genetic patchiness among recruits in the European eel Anguilla anguilla

Heterogeneity in genetic composition among recruits of marine species is mostly due to a large variance in reproductive success mediated by oceanographic processes. Temporal genetic variation in a population of the European eel was quantified over 2 time scales among glass eel (1) interannual samples (cohorts), and (2) intra-annual samples within cohorts (‘arrival waves’). A total of 789 glass ...

Diet-induced phenotypic plasticity in European eel (Anguilla anguilla).

Two phenotypes are present within the European eel population: broad-heads and narrow-heads. The expression of these phenotypes has been linked to several factors, such as diet and differential growth. The exact factors causing this dimorphism, however, are still unknown. In this study, we performed a feeding experiment on glass eels from the moment they start to feed. Eels were either fed a ha...

Tolerance of chronic hypercapnia by the European eel Anguilla anguilla.

European eels were exposed for 6 weeks to water CO(2) partial pressures (P(CO)(2)) from ambient (approx. 0.8 mmHg), through 15+/-1 mmHg and 30+/-1 mmHg to 45+/-1 mmHg in water with a total hardness of 240 mg l(-1) as CaCO(3), pH 8.2, at 23+/-1 degrees C. Arterial plasma P(CO)(2) equilibrated at approximately 2 mmHg above water P(CO)(2) in all groups, and plasma bicarbonate accumulated up to 72 ...
